TexPower is looking for a materials scientist with initiative excited to work with the cathode R&D team, innovating and developing our cathode as we commercialize and grow our company. You’ll become a member of a dynamic and rapidly expanding startup at the forefront of developing next-generation cobalt-free lithium-based battery cathode materials for electric vehicles and beyond.

Senior scientists will have a Ph.D. degree in a relevant field (materials science, chemistry, engineering), ideally with 2+ years of related industry experience. You will act as an in-house cathode expert, lead projects and direct work, focusing on a broad range of topics as needed. We expect our scientists to keep organized and efficiently report their work, focusing on IP generation, process innovation, and materials improvements. TexPower is a startup company spun out of the University of Texas at Austin in early 2019, continuing the disruptive innovations led by Profs. John B. Goodenough and Arumugam Manthiram on lithium-ion batteries. We aim to deploy our novel cobalt-free, high-energy, drop-in cathode materials in lithium-based batteries used across the U.S. and beyond. Our cathodes can replace commercial battery cathodes “Powder for Powder”, and thus are extremely flexible for any battery form factor and are applicable wherever portable power is required.

In 2020 TexPower moved its operations to Houston, TX and established laboratory space at the University of Houston Technology Bridge. In Spring 2023, we are moving to our new facility at 6935 Brittmoore Rd with a state-of-the-art 6,000 sq. ft. lab space, pilot facility (3 metric tons per annum), and 27,000 sq. ft. warehouse for a phase I production facility (150 metric tons per annum) to be completed by the end of 2024. TexPower has grown rapidly from 4 staff in Fall 2020 to >25 employees in Spring 2023.
